iPtX plants and RED III
moonriver.energy iPtX plants (integrated Power-to-X plants) fulfil the conditions of RED III (Renewable Energy Directive).
According to RED III, RFNBOs (renewable fuels of non-biological origin), i.e. green hydrogen and its derivatives, must be produced with electricity from renewable energy plants that were additionally built in accordance with paragraph 6 of section 27. For example, RFNBOs cannot be produced from the electricity of a 40-year-old hydropower plant. In addition, the criterion of temporal and geographical correlation must be met: the electricity required for the production of RFNBOs must only come from a newly constructed generation plant in the vicinity of the PtX plant and it must not be “delayed” to be drawn from the grid at a later date.
The design of moonriver.energy iPtX plants fulfil precisely these two key criteria of RED III.
